DIY: Golden Blossom Necklace

I saw this necklace on This is Glamorous and it reminded me so much of a piece I bought a few years ago that I haven't ever worn. I figured...perhaps if I transformed it, I would work it into my wardrobe for once (or twice)...I also figured that I haven't ever worn it so if it ends up looking shiteous I could just throw it out. So, I decided to give it a go...

The inspiration (retail $375)


Requirement: a trip to Michael's to pick up some gold spray paint...

ta-da! A glam inspired piece for a fraction of the price. This picture was taken after one coat, I'm sure I'll spray another when this dries. Please excuse my Chinese takeout menu ;)

monday night DIY

Since Gossip Girl was POSTPONED to due the local CW broadcasting the Dolphins game (annoying) I decided to make the most of the downtime and hit JoAnn fabrics. I picked up some lace trim to transform a boring crewneck t shirt into something new...

Start by cutting the crewneck at the shoulder seam, diagonally to just below the opposite sleeve. This will give you the "one-shoulder" style that is so flattering. Then, use pins to place the lace where you will eventually (hand)sew it onto the shirt.







You should be sewing the lace on with short, tight swipes of the needle. You dont want it to be loose or hang funny, so make sure it is on securely.



After about half an hour, voila! The neck is done. I had extra ribbon so I did the sleeve as well, which literally took a matter of minutes.



Ta-da! Here is my new, one of a kind shirt. Made from a simple and boring fitted t shirt! I plan on wearing this tucked in to a skirt, otherwise you could comtemplace trimming the bottom as well. Happy sewing!

the rosette vest: DIY

I've seen a couple images on the internet lately with clothing adorned with rosettes. At first, I was "eh" about them. I kept imagining the Project Runway season where that one girl put rosettes on everything and everyone got so annoyed. But then I did some googling. While this image (via blog.glam.com)doesn't do the trend much justice, you get the idea of what high end designers have dabbled in rosettes: 



BEFORE, a basic black vest from wet seal.



AFTER (below), my snazzed up rosette vest. I picked up some rosette ribbon and kind of randomly went about sewing it on. Originally, I wanted to cover the front panels, but I definitely like it this way instead. Just a little embellishment, nothing too over-the-top.

an attempt at packing

So...I am leaving for Peru on Saturday for a little trip to Lima/Macchu Picchu. I am stoked beyond words! Alas, I am stuck trying to prepare for the journey. This happens to me everytime... I'll probably pack and unpack twice before leaving. You see, I am a firm believer in carry-on only. I LOATHE checking my bags. For some reason, they have a habit of not being at my destination when I arrive. If one bag were to get left behind, it would be mine.  So I have become the master of packing light and shove my belongings into a tiny roll-on. I am also packing some of my revistas en espanol to help my brain adjust to being back in South America...

Anyway, I am sifting through things and the only item I am for SURE taking is the DIY t-shirt I created last night....
