After Macys, my fashion agenda took me to a meeting with the lovely Beatriz Lopez-Henrique, a Miami fashion designer who's designs are fresh and whimiscal and definitely for the girly-girl. So, of course, I LOVE HER DESIGNS! Putting on a dress of hers is like stepping into a dessert!
Bea attended the Art Institute of Miami and had the opportunity to showcase a few pieces on the runway at Miami Fashion Week, and also caught the eye of Mujer Magazine and landed the opportunity to showcase her designs in print. While the samples I tried on were some of her couture pieces, Bea is currently expanding her collection to swimwear and knitwear.
What sets Bea apart is her eco-friendly designs. She won a contest that took a piece of her work on a national tour with the Humane Society (as fur-simulated coat that was actually made of feather dusters), and also created a red carpet dress also made of feather dusters. She is adamant about not using fur, leather or suede to make her apparel. She says, "I am against fur and animal cruelty. As a young designer, it is my responsibility to show there are other ways to look beautiful."
Later this month, Bea's designs will hit the runway again, this time at nightclub Nowhere on October 21st, along with a few other local designers.
